Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is looking for a Nurse Clinical Consultant to serve as an expert practitioner within the indolent lymphoma, aggressive lymphoma, and myeloproliferative neoplasms disease groups. You will provide evidence-based care, coordinate treatment, and facilitate education across the cancer care continuum.
What You'll Do
- Provide expert education to patients and family members.
- Review patients in clinic in collaboration with the medical team.
- Conduct advanced clinical assessment, early recognition of toxicities, and appropriate management.
- Provide telephone follow-up for patients as required.
- Coordinate specialist referrals as required.
- Provide education and clinical support to inpatient and outpatient areas precinct-wide.
- When appropriate, provide transition of care to the referring hospital.
- Attend and participate in MDT meetings.
- Ensure the delivery of a high standard of evidence-based nursing care to patients.
- Conduct comprehensive screening, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the clinical setting.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with other health professionals, support staff, patients' families, the community, and external care providers.
- Collaborate with other health professionals to ensure the patient's safe and effective transition across the care continuum and facilitate access to appropriate resources.
- Lead and facilitate the development of systems and processes to support the planning and coordination of treatment, education, and support needs for patients and their families.
- Support the development of the clinical services model and provide support to nurses in the preceptorship program.
- Actively engage in the preceptorship program for succession planning.
- Contribute to the development of evidence-based care guidelines, policies, procedures, and patient resources.
- Ensure referrals are triaged in a timely fashion.
- Ensure patients with complex needs are identified and supported in a timely manner to optimize outcomes.
- Ensure relevant education material for patients and other nurses is evidence-based and up to date.
- Deliver evidence-based nursing care where possible.
- Participate in and facilitate nursing research.
- Foster an environment that promotes education and research within the nursing division.
- Participate in continuing education sessions, committees, special projects, and relevant professional groups.
- Educate the healthcare team regarding the concept and role of the Nurse Consultant.
- Collect and monitor relevant nurse-sensitive KPIs for your stream.
- Demonstrate flexibility and creativity in identifying resources to meet patient care needs.
- Ensure the vision, purpose, and values of the organization are understood and integrated into daily practice.
- Assist with the submission of proposals for grants/special projects funding.
What We're Looking For
- Registered Nurse.
- Post graduate qualifications in cancer nursing.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in oncology nursing at a senior level.
- An understanding of and experience with developing evidence-based practice.
- Demonstrated involvement in professional activities and organisations (e.g., Australian College of Nursing, Cancer Nursing Society of Australia, Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand).
- Participation in professional development opportunities.
- Ability to work across a variety of cancer streams.
- Maintain immunisation in accordance with the Staff Immunisation Policy, including vaccination against COVID-19 & Influenza.
- AHPRA Registration.
Nice to Have
- A Masters in Nursing or a relevant field.
- Experience in conducting tumour stream or nursing based quality improvement activities or research.
Team & Environment
Works within the Multi-disciplinary team and across various internal and external groups.
Benefits & Compensation
- Salary: ZJ4, $124,368.40 per annum (pro rata for part time).
Work Mode
This is an onsite role.
