The Penn State College of Engineering is looking for a News Content Specialist to join the editorial team within our marketing and communications group. You'll be responsible for creating and disseminating news content about the activities and accomplishments within the college, primarily through written storytelling.
What You'll Do
- Write articles, news briefs, and other content to disseminate College of Engineering news.
- Generate fresh and compelling story angles to support college priorities.
- Interview and work with a variety of stakeholders, including researchers, students, staff, alumni, and others.
- Gather information; review documents including grants and other technical information; and report on events.
- Incorporate feedback in the editing process to finalize drafts.
- Usher each story through from initial assignment to publication.
- Work with team members for visual needs and dissemination plans.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with multiple stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree.
- For Advanced Professional level: 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
- For Intermediate Professional level: 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a writing- or communications-related field.
- Knowledge of AP style.
- Experience in a communications field.
- Strong verbal skills and storytelling abilities.
- Experience balancing multiple priorities simultaneously and working in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
- Capacity to incorporate feedback and learn quickly.
- Willingness to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with writing for STEM fields.
Team & Environment
You'll be part of the editorial team within the marketing and communications group, reporting to the Editorial Manager.

- Compensation range: $46,400.00 - $74,000.00.
