Neighbors Bank is looking for a Mortgage Underwriting Trainer to combine underwriting expertise with team development, strengthening our department through training, mentorship, and direct underwriting support. Your role is pivotal to building a high-performing team that supports our mission to Enhance Lives.
What You'll Do
- Train and coach Underwriters and Junior Underwriters on guidelines, systems, and underwriting best practices.
- Support the onboarding and development of new underwriting team members.
- Develop and maintain training materials and curriculum across Conventional, FHA, USDA, and VA loan products.
- Provide individualized coaching and act as the first escalation point for trainees.
- Review loan files and make credit decisions when providing underwriting coverage.
- Assist leadership with second-level reviews, audits, and quality control initiatives.
- Partner with Underwriting leadership to identify skill gaps and strengthen team performance.
What We're Looking For
- At least 3 years of mortgage underwriting experience.
- At least 1 year of underwriting training, coaching, or mentoring experience.
- Experience underwriting Conventional, FHA, and USDA loan products.
- Strong working knowledge of mortgage underwriting guidelines and loan documentation.
- The ability to analyze borrower financials and assess overall loan risk.
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, production-driven mortgage environment.
- Experience using the systems and technology required for a fully remote lending organization.
- Willingness to complete any required FHA/HUD designation training and USDA training after starting.
- Consistent reliability and the ability to meet performance expectations in a team-based environment.

This is a fully remote position. Candidates must reside in one of the following eligible states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia (all counties except DeKalb and Fulton), Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, or Virginia.
