About the Role

Bank of England Mortgage is looking for a Mortgage Underwriter to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting a variety of loans, ensuring they comply with company policy and investor guidelines. You will provide essential administrative support to the Residential Loan Underwriting Department by reviewing files, analyzing financial data, and presenting loans for approval.

What You'll Do

  • Perform loan file review and underwriting to determine compliance with investor guidelines and company procedures.
  • Analyze sources of income and debt-to-income calculations.
  • Assess overall loan risk based on analysis of income, assets, credit, and collateral.
  • Review and interpret complex financial information like tax returns and credit histories to render loan decisions.
  • Effectively present loans to higher lending authorities.
  • Review supporting documentation including flood certifications and property tax information.
  • Thoroughly review residential real estate appraisal reports for accuracy.
  • Restructure loans to mitigate risks.
  • Determine if LTV, DTI, and other criteria comply with various loan program parameters.
  • Communicate loan decisions to appropriate parties.
  • Stay current with Bank Secrecy Act rules and investor requirements.
  • Assist in quality control and annual audit processes.

What We're Looking For

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of current mortgage underwriting experience with Conforming and/or Non-Conforming loans.
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office/Word, Excel, Financial Calculator, and Mortgage Loan Applications/Software (Encompass 360).
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain quality and productivity in a changing, high-volume environment.
  • Working knowledge of fraud tools and mortgage insurance (MI) guidelines.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to perform essential responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice to Have

  • Some college preferred; BS degree desired.
  • Experience with FHA, FNMA, FHLMC, VA, and/or RD loan programs.
