Role Overview
This position serves as the designated Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and Nominated Officer under Greek legislation, responsible for upholding anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, and crypto-asset service provider (CASP) compliance for operations in Greece. The role requires independent judgment in identifying, evaluating, and reporting financial crime risks in alignment with local and European regulatory expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of accountability for AML/CFT/CPF compliance under Greek law
- Review, analyze, and determine appropriate actions on internal Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs)
- Prepare and file Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) to the Hellenic Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) when necessary
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant reporting while maintaining decisional independence
- Develop, implement, and oversee a risk-proportionate AML/CFT/CPF framework tailored to the organization’s business model
- Lead the periodic Business-Wide Risk Assessment (BWRA), incorporating crypto-specific threat patterns and emerging typologies
- Oversee Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), and continuous monitoring processes to ensure regulatory alignment
Required Qualifications
- 10–15 years of experience in AML/CFT compliance within regulated financial sectors, including at least 5 years in an MLRO capacity
- Thorough understanding of Greek AML legislation, EU AML directives, FATF standards, Regulation (EU) 2, and MiCA governance requirements
- Direct experience with crypto-asset service providers and blockchain-related financial crime risks
- Proven track record engaging with financial intelligence units or EU regulatory bodies, preferably the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC)
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with blockchain analysis platforms such as Chainalysis, TRM Labs, or Elliptic
- Holding a recognized professional certification—such as the ICA AML Diploma, CAMS, or a legal/financial credential—is advantageous
