The MIQA & Reliability Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity and reliability of Process Safety Management (PSM)-critical equipment across the site. This position is responsible for leading Mechanical Integrity Quality Assurance (MIQA) programs, conducting in-depth failure analysis, and driving continuous improvement in equipment performance and maintenance strategies. The engineer ensures compliance with regulatory standards and Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEPs), while also supporting capital projects, maintenance planning, and root cause investigations. Working closely with maintenance teams, engineering, and contractors, this role acts as a technical authority and advisor to enhance equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and support safe, compliant operations. The position also contributes to regional and global MIQA initiatives and supports contractor oversight and on-call responsibilities after achieving technical proficiency.
Responsibilities
- Monitor equipment performance and diagnose issues to resolve operational problems.
- Implement statutory and regulatory MIQA requirements for Process Safety Management (PSM) equipment.
- Set up Maintenance Repair & Operating (MRO) data in SAP and manage quality processes for new PSM-critical equipment.
- Serve as a technical expert during root cause investigations, guiding failure analysis and repair strategies.
- Apply engineering principles to conduct root cause failure analysis using methods like RCFA and 5-why.
- Drive reliability improvements aligned with cost, business goals, and analytical insights.
- Execute site MIQA heat map actions under the direction of the site MIQA or reliability leader.
- Create quality assurance and maintenance plans in SAP for minor capital projects.
- Standardize equipment practices and support technical aspects of installation, checkout, maintenance, and startup.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop repair procedures for equipment.
- Coach maintenance technicians on preventive and predictive maintenance, including lubrication, vibration analysis, calibration, and PM optimization.
- Assist in identifying spare parts requirements for both new and existing equipment.
- Support turnaround and shutdown teams with inspection, repair planning, and specialized equipment needs.
- Ensure compliance with MI programs, regulatory standards, and Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEPs) for testing, inspections, and repairs.
- Participate in regional and business MIQA networks to share site-level insights and support broader initiatives.
- Act as contractor administrator for the site, overseeing contractor compliance and performance.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of regional or global MIQA and reliability programs.
- Serve on the on-call team after achieving sufficient experience and technical proficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience working in a chemical, manufacturing, or similar industrial environment.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to collaborate effectively and respectfully within a diverse team setting.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in manufacturing with a focus on MIQA, reliability engineering, or Process Safety Management.
- Familiarity with MIQA policy requirements, applicable regulations, and RAGAGEPs as they relate to PSM.
- Knowledge of Maintenance Work Management Processes and their impact on MIQA compliance and effectiveness.
