About the Role

The University of Miami is seeking a per-diem Medical Technologist 2 specializing in Cytogenetics. In this role, you will perform microbiological, molecular biological, and immunological tests on body specimens to support disease diagnosis and treatment. You will facilitate quality assurance, maintain instruments, and collaborate with clinical investigators.

What You'll Do

  • Verify specimen identification against physician orders, prepare specimens for testing, and handle all materials safely.
  • Analyze test results, interpret abnormal findings, research pertinent patient data, and refer findings to pathologists.
  • Calibrate equipment, order supplies, and maintain inventory of relevant forms and materials.
  • Recognize test inconsistencies and take corrective action while supporting co-workers in problem resolution.
  • Administer quality-control tests according to procedure and maintain appropriate data records.
  • Assist with orienting and training employees on laboratory techniques and operations.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological, chemical, or medical science field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 2 years of general relevant medical technology experience.
  • A valid State of Florida Medical Technologist license.
  • Licensed by the State of Florida as a Clinical Cytogenetics Technologist and/or Molecular Technologist.
  • A minimum of 5 years of work experience as a technologist specifically in Cytogenetics.

Nice to Have

  • Certified by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) as a Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Cytogenetics (CLSp-CG) and/or Molecular Technologist.
