Role Overview
As a Medical Laboratory Scientist II, you will conduct precise laboratory analyses across all age groups while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional standards. This full-time position operates on a rotating day-weekend schedule, covering Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM at a healthcare facility in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform pre-analytical tasks such as specimen collection, processing, equipment calibration, quality control, and maintenance
- Carry out analytical procedures with accuracy and efficiency following established protocols
- Complete post-analytical activities including result reporting and data documentation
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure accurate recordkeeping
- Support quality assurance initiatives and participate in proficiency testing
- Assist in evaluating new laboratory methods and technologies
- Train and mentor laboratory technicians and students, tracking their progress
- Address technical issues and resolve workflow challenges
- Follow strict safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and handling of hazardous materials
- Ensure confidentiality of patient data at all times
- Contribute to special projects and data collection efforts as needed
- Stay current with advancements through ongoing communication and education
Qualifications
An Associate degree in laboratory science, biological science, chemical science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution is required. Alternatively, completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training program with relevant experience as a Medical Laboratory Specialist qualifies. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in laboratory procedures, computer systems, and regulatory compliance. Strong communication skills and fluency in English are essential. The ideal candidate works independently, adapts to changing priorities, and supports team development.
Preferred Experience
One or more years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation ranges from $23.71 to $48.50 per hour, with a $10,000 sign-on bonus (subject to a one-year commitment) and $3,000 relocation assistance available for qualified candidates. Work Environment
