Allegheny Health Network, part of Highmark Health, is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Science Instructor. In this hourly role, you will provide lectures and hands-on laboratory instruction in parasitology, mycology, and selected bacteriology courses. You will play a key role in curriculum development, student evaluation, and supporting the program’s NAACLS accreditation.
What You'll Do
- Teach classroom and student laboratory theory and practice for assigned courses, developing curriculum, syllabi, and examinations.
- Order supplies and textbooks, and recommend capital budget purchases for the school.
- Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot all school laboratory instrumentation.
- Procure samples for student lab testing and maintain stock cultures for microbiology courses.
- Participate in planning for new student laboratory functions and equipment.
- Contribute to annual systematic evaluation activities to maintain NAACLS accreditation and improve program quality.
- Support student recruitment by managing the school’s social media, performing outreach, and creating marketing materials.
- Provide clinical instruction and supervision to help students integrate classroom theory with clinical practice.
- Participate in the interview and selection process for prospective students.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related science field.
- 2+ years of experience working as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist.
- One of the following certifications: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) ASCP BOC, Medical Technologist (MT) ASCP BOC, Medical Technologist (MT) AAB, or Medical Technologist from AMT.
Nice to Have
- 2+ years of teaching experience and familiarity with NAACLS accreditation standards.
