UMass Memorial Health seeks a Medical Lab Tech (MLT) for a 24-hour, night shift position. Under general supervision, you will perform a variety of laboratory tests with considerable independence to produce rapid, accurate results for patient diagnosis and treatment across all assigned departments.
What You'll Do
- Follow established procedures to perform all lab tests, including those defined by CLIA as high complexity, to obtain data for disease diagnosis and treatment.
- Perform procedures across major laboratory areas such as Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, or Microbiology.
- Assess the acceptability of specimens for analysis and maintain their integrity throughout the entire testing process.
- Perform set-up on all required laboratory equipment, instruments, and apparatus.
- Perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance on equipment, documenting all procedures.
- Operate all laboratory equipment per standard operating procedures to ensure accurate patient results.
- Recognize critical and life-threatening results and notify appropriate clinical personnel per hospital policy.
- Seek out areas needing assistance when testing volume in your assigned area is minimal or tasks are complete.
What We're Looking For
- For MLT: Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related science AND MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification, OR Categorical Certification, OR a Medical Technology Program Certificate, OR HEW Certification, OR a minimum of 1 year experience performing High Complexity Testing, OR an equivalent combination of the above.
- For MT: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related science AND MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification, OR MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification, OR Categorical Certification, OR a Medical Technology Program Certificate, OR HEW Certification, OR a minimum of 1 year experience performing High Complexity Testing, OR an equivalent combination of the above.
- Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member.
- Demonstrated organization skills and attention to detail.
Nice to Have
- A minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience.
Team & Environment
You will work under the general supervision of the Laboratory Section Head.
Work Mode
This position requires full-time onsite work.
