Duke University was looking for a Medical Lab Scientist

Duke University Hospital is hiring a Medical Lab Scientist to join our Central Automated Lab. In this role, you will perform a variety of routine and complex technical procedures in clinical laboratories to provide data essential for patient diagnosis and treatment. You'll contribute directly to our mission of delivering compassionate care that changes lives.

What You'll Do

  • Perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests using standard techniques and equipment, including manual and automated instrumentation.
  • Process patient specimens using appropriate identification techniques and documented procedures.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation according to standard operating procedures.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of assay problems and communicate issues to appropriate senior staff.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Document quality control and quality assurance results.
  • Participate in the development of new medical laboratory tests, preparation for inspections, and proficiency testing.
  • Review lab procedures for accuracy and compliance, bringing non-compliance issues to attention.
  • Understand and comply with all necessary safety procedures, reporting incidents promptly.
  • Attend required laboratory meetings, safety, and compliance training sessions.
  • Comply with competency testing procedures and laboratory training programs.
  • May provide technical guidance and instruction to students, interns, residents, and other staff.
  • Consistently cooperate and communicate effectively with co-workers to ensure effective workflow.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science; or Medical Technology.

Nice to Have

  • Medical Technologist experience and ASCP certification.
