The Wikimedia Foundation is hiring a Media Partnerships Lead to increase Wikipedia's visibility and credibility. Reporting to the Director of Brand, you will develop strategic partnerships with mission-aligned organizations, media companies, and social media platforms to boost brand reach and publishing impact.
What You'll Do
- Build relationships within the media and publishing industries, cultivating champions of Wikimedia's work.
- Find additional opportunities and platforms to share key messages at scale within media and among mission-aligned organizations.
- Co-develop speaking opportunities and events (e.g., panels, discussions) with media companies and mission-aligned organizations to boost brand reach.
- Establish and maintain relationships with social media platform representatives to maximize Wikipedia branded publishing impact.
- Work in tandem with the Wikimedia Foundation’s Social Media team to support their short and long term goals.
- Drive brand positioning and visibility goals in close collaboration with the Brand Studio’s Global Brand Manager and Brand Strategists.
- Collaborate with staff from the Product + Technology Department and Global Advocacy team to support reader and content reuse goals.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in media partnerships.
- Strong understanding of core brand strategy frameworks (research, data analysis, brief writing, brand positioning).
- Proven ability to broker global partnerships across audiences.
- Experience working with brands that have community stakeholders and diffused decision-making.
- Experience working on global socio-technical platforms and brands in international markets.
- Proven record of working well across a wide range of disciplines from PR to Product, Design to Donor Relations.
- Good range of connections with partners who can help uplift potential for mission-aligned partnerships.
- Ready to educate and inform WMF staff, Wikipedia Volunteers and partners about media partnerships development.
- Outcome-oriented, self-organized, and able to develop and adapt plans to meet top-level goals.

- Preferred that the candidate be based between UTC−05:00 and UTC -08:00.
Team & Environment
Part of the Wikimedia Foundation Brand Studio, an in-house brand and creative service group within the Communications Department. Reporting to the Director of Brand.
Benefits & Compensation
- For applicants based within the United States: US$114,758 to US$177,097. For applicants located outside of the US, the pay range will be adjusted to the country of hire.
