SpaceX is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to support the elite Starbase team responsible for building and upgrading facilities and Ground Support Equipment (GSE). Your mission is to develop a high-volume rocket factory by leading MEP design and coordination for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. You will manage construction activities and own the full project lifecycle from concept to customer turnover.
What You'll Do
- Lead MEP design and coordination for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
- Partner with cross-departmental teams to define requirements and derive design details.
- Prepare and review design drawings and documents for mechanical, electrical, and fluid systems.
- Manage construction activities related to MEP systems, ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
- Use construction and engineering knowledge to expedite design and solve conflicts during construction.
- Write and manage construction contracts with subcontractors through contract close-out.
- Perform project control tasks, including project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control.
- Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of tasks and projects to achieve on-time and under-budget delivery.
- Manage tools and folder systems for organizing construction projects.
- Provide budgetary costs based on preliminary project scope.
- Gather proposals from architects, engineers, and contractors; assign contracts upon receipt.
- Develop final cost and schedule for projects and implement controls to manage them.
- Facilitate city, county, and governmental approvals.
- Coordinate project implementation and track project status.
- Work with facilities teams and customers to operationalize post-construction building operations.
- Coordinate with customer and facilities teams for building operations and maintenance.
- Manage night shift contractors as project work requires.
- Take on new projects ad-hoc as business needs arise.
- Coordinate permit acquisition and closeout with the permitting team.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, or structural engineering.
- 1+ years of experience creating structural, civil, or MEP construction documents including plans, elevations, sections, and details.
Nice to Have
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, think critically, and drive successful outcomes.
- Possess the mentality of extreme ownership, owning project outcomes from concept to customer turnover.
- Experience in construction, project management, and tenant improvement.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or other MEP design and analysis software.
- Proficiency with design and construction of electrical, plumbing, HVAC/R, controls systems, fire protection, concrete, structural framing, and industrial gas trades.
- Ability to read instructions and blueprints.
- Knowledge of basic construction and engineering principles and methods.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
