Lead a team of underwriters in personal lines insurance, shaping performance through strategic direction, operational excellence, and team development. This role is central to advancing leadership practices, refining organizational structure, and implementing process and technology improvements that support long-term business goals.
What You'll Do
Guide team performance by fostering engagement, setting clear expectations, and promoting accountability. Develop and execute leadership strategies that align with evolving business needs. Maintain open communication with team members, ensuring transparency around initiatives, results, and performance metrics.
Collaborate with Regional Managers, underwriters, and national counterparts across distribution channels to strengthen operational effectiveness. Serve as a key contact between Corporate Personal Insurance and internal partners in Operations, Planning, Claims, and Sales, addressing technical and administrative challenges.
Take an active role in recruitment, selecting qualified professionals who align with organizational values. Model behaviors rooted in care, openness, and responsibility—providing honest feedback, recognizing achievements, and encouraging diverse viewpoints. Champion change by challenging assumptions, maintaining focus on results, and inspiring others through a solutions-oriented mindset.
Requirements
- 7 to 10 years of leadership and management experience, with at least 5 years in personal lines underwriting
- Proven ability to lead teams through transformation, with structured support during periods of change
- Solid understanding of personal lines products, systems, and industry dynamics
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and inform business decisions
- Experience monitoring competitive trends and recommending strategic adjustments
- Excellent communication skills, with a track record of building relationships across organizational levels
- Experience managing remote teams, coaching staff, and leading projects collaboratively
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines, setting objectives and tracking progress effectively
- Critical thinking skills with awareness of diverse perspectives and approaches
- Eligibility to work in Canada required
