Recreation District #1 / Pelican Park is seeking a Marketing Manager to lead communications and marketing efforts. This is a temporary parental leave coverage role for a term of up to 16 months. You will create, implement, and evaluate marketing plans to increase brand awareness, promote member engagement, and attract new members while managing the marketing team.
What You'll Do
- Develop high-level marketing strategy to support all aspects of the organization.
- Create comprehensive communications and marketing plans that promote overall business objectives.
- Build a content marketing strategy and calendar to coordinate marketing specialists and freelancers.
- Identify, research, write, and proactively produce content for advertising, social media, email campaigns, website, and collateral.
- Write and edit content with and for members to boost the brand and create ambassadorship.
- Develop content partnerships with aligned businesses and organizations to increase awareness and expand SEO.
- Act as the liaison between the Calgary Chamber and marketing leads at other chambers across the country.
- Oversee marketing staff, providing deadlines, leadership, guidance, and direction.
- Help staff create growth plans for skill development and encourage ownership over marketing plan pillars.
- Ensure brand standards are met and cohesive across all outward-facing materials, overseeing brand guidelines.
- Develop comprehensive materials that support current member engagement and prospective member solicitation.
- Work with the Director, Events & Partnerships to create the events calendar and integrate complementary marketing strategies.
- Create compelling content to support the creation and promotion of events.
- Support the Events team during peak periods with event preparation, set up, registration, and day-of support.
- Effectively manage multiple communications and marketing plans simultaneously, utilizing KPIs to track success.
What We're Looking For
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in both marketing and communications.
- A university degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including experience leading or guiding a team.
- Demonstrated experience developing marketing and communications strategies, including plans, goals, KPIs, and metrics.
- Demonstrated excellence creating and executing effective communication and marketing plans, campaigns, and programs.
- Demonstrated experience using digital advertising, social media, and website tools.
- Demonstrated experience in copy writing and creating compelling communication pieces for a wide variety of audiences and businesses.
- Ability to interview, write, edit, and proofread.
- General understanding of event management and event best practices.
- Ability to provide mentorship to other staff members.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Dynamics).
Nice to Have
- Experience with Wordpress, Google Analytics, Google Adwords, social media management tools such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social, or Metricool, and design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite would be considered a significant asset.

Team & Environment
You will lead the marketing team, which includes marketing and creative specialists and coordinators. This role reports to the Vice-President, Strategic Initiatives, Partnerships and Engagement.
