Quora is hiring a Machine Learning Tech Lead to lead machine learning efforts for Feed Personalization. You will focus on recommendation systems across the Quora product, including the feed, notifications, and digest emails. In this role, you will advance ranking systems, identify new opportunities to apply machine learning, and develop tools for other engineers.
What You'll Do
- Improve existing machine learning systems using core coding skills and machine learning knowledge.
- Identify new opportunities to apply machine learning to different parts of the Quora product.
- Work with other machine learning engineers to implement algorithms and systems efficiently.
- Take end-to-end ownership of machine learning systems, including data pipelines, candidate extraction, feature engineering, model training, and integration into production.
What We're Looking For
- Availability for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora's 'coordination hours' (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time).
- 7+ years of professional software development experience in machine learning.
- 4+ years of professional experience building and optimizing Home Feed recommendation systems for social media and user-generated content platforms.
- A good understanding of the mathematical foundations of machine learning algorithms.
- Previous experience building end-to-end machine learning systems.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
Nice to Have
- Experience writing Python or C++ code.
- Experience with leading large-scale multi-engineer projects.
- Passion for Quora's mission and goals.

- Compensation range (base salary): US: $255,816 - $375,183 USD; Canada (Toronto/Vancouver): $330,356 - $387,603 CAD; Canada (other): $308,332 - $361,762 CAD. Equity is included.
