Linxon is hiring a Lead Primary Engineer

About the Role

The Lead Primary Engineer will lead and manage all primary engineering activities for SSEN & SPEN substation projects from project initiation through to As-Built stage. This role ensures compliance with project specifications, Linxon standards, and QA/QC, HSSE, and integrity requirements while coordinating with internal teams, external partners, and suppliers.

What You'll Do

  • Manage and lead all primary engineering activities from project start to As-Built stage
  • Ensure strict adherence to Project Specifications and Linxon standards including QA/QC, HSSE & Integrity
  • Instruct, supervise, and coordinate with other engineering team (GETS) within Linxon (local & remote), internal & external partners, sub-suppliers, secondary engineers, and civil engineers
  • Review HV plant design packages as per NG/ET/SR188
  • Input to the development of the Design Intent Document (DID)
  • Submit completed Design Packages for Design Compliance Audit
  • Ensure all design changes are managed in accordance with the design change management process defined as per NG
  • Attend Design Review meetings (DRMs) and Hazard review meetings (HRMs) as required
  • Review and certify design packages and issue the DCAAR
  • Provide information for civil designs and coordinate interfaces between construction planning, steel structure engineering, protection and control system, auxiliary power system, and all equipment suppliers
  • Participate in technical discussions with customers and suppliers
  • Handle site queries and take necessary actions up to as-built documentation
  • Lead technical responsibilities for procurement of equipment and subcontractors
  • Develop project-specific technical specifications and accompanying documentation
  • Conduct technical review of quotes
  • Lead technical discussions regarding scope of works and technical requirements
  • Manage primary engineering budget, schedule, forecast, risk, and change management activities
  • Serve as Primary Engineer for large and complex EHV/HV Air & Gas Insulated Substation (AIS & GIS) projects in the UK
  • Provide technical solutions for substations including Single line diagram, technical information, layouts, and associated detail drawings and documents
  • Prepare Design Intent Document (DID) / Functional Design Specification (FDS) based on supplier inputs
  • Issue RFQs for HV Plant equipment
  • Review supplier/subcontractor deliverables based on project specifications and standards
  • Support site team during execution stage
  • Provide technical calculations and schedules for all equipment for projects or tenders
  • Prepare bill of quantities (PEMS), deviations, and clarifications for technical solutions
  • Review suppliers' design and Factory Acceptance Test plans
  • Provide technical support to develop tender scheme options and related project scope documents

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor or Master’s in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Extensive substation engineering experience in utilities, particularly in transmission electrical networks
  • Knowledge of SSEN & SPEN requirements, policies, and standards
  • Expert knowledge in Substation primary design and engineering, Layouts, Grounding & Lightning design, Steel design inputs, transformers, HV & MV Switchgear systems, HV & MV cable calculations, earthing calculations
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office
  • Knowledge in MicroStation and AutoCAD is required
  • Fluency in English – both written and spoken
