Kohl's is looking for a Lead Engineer (m/f/d) to ensure the successful nationwide rollout of the Mein Bildungsraum platform. In this role, you will be responsible for the technical and organizational direction of software delivery, building and managing a team, and developing a long-term technology vision to unlock the digital potential of education in Germany.

What You'll Do

Develop and implement a long-term technology vision and future-proof architecture supporting digital transformation in the public sector.
Lead, mentor, and scale high-performing platform and engineering teams to deliver modern, efficient, and secure digital services.
Ensure smooth delivery processes and continuous quality improvement through process optimization and engineering excellence.
Align product and technology roadmaps through close, cross-functional collaboration.
Establish and enhance standards in security, reliability, and compliance, considering public sector regulations and sustainability goals.
Drive architectural decisions by overseeing the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and resilient software architectures using modern and open-source technologies.
Serve as the primary technical liaison for Product Management, Executive Leadership, and external partners, translating complex requirements into engineering plans.

What We're Looking For

Several years of management experience in software development.
Strategic and technical expertise in software architecture, cloud infrastructures, and modern development processes.
Understanding of public sector requirements (e.g., security, data protection, sustainability, operability).
Strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to inspire people to share a common vision.
Excellent command of English.
Passion for digital transformation, open technologies, and socially effective IT.

Nice to Have

Experience in complex or regulated IT environments.
German language skills.
