YMCA of Southwest Florida is hiring a Lead Classroom Teacher

About the Role

The YMCA of Southwest Florida is looking for a Lead Classroom Teacher to oversee all aspects of their students’ classroom experience. You will be responsible for curriculum management, creating the classroom environment, and building partnerships with parents, while reporting to the Early Learning Director.

What You'll Do

  • Create a nurturing, respectful, and safe classroom environment that responds to the needs of each student.
  • Implement curriculum in accordance with YMCA best practices.
  • Supervise, guide, and support Classroom Teachers effectively to develop, share, and participate in classroom activities.
  • Use constructive feedback to improve curriculum, classroom environment, and address individual student needs.
  • Hold parent-teacher conferences two times a year and as needed to provide feedback on developmental progress.
  • Prepare necessary level progress reports for all children in your classroom.
  • Respond to emails and phone calls from parents in a timely manner.
  • Participate in discussions regarding the successful transition of children from level to level.
  • Attend professional development workshops outside of school.
  • Set professional and personal goals to be discussed with leadership.
  • Support colleagues as needed and maintain open communication with Administration.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and adhere to all YMCA guidelines and standards.
  • Follow protocols for managing information and completing requests as detailed in the Employee Handbook.
  • Meet all school deadlines and participate in scheduled staff meetings and work days.
  • Make yourself available, as appropriate, to offer extra help to students and their parents.
  • Attend and assist at major all-school activities and open houses.
  • Prepare a yearly class play or presentation as suggested by the curriculum.
  • Create age-appropriate aesthetics in classrooms including nature tables and seasonal displays.
  • Participate in the enrollment process of new students.
  • Maintain and make readily available a lesson plan for substitute teachers.
  • Participate in a professional development and accountability plan.
  • In the event of a planned absence, arrange for a substitute and ensure they receive lesson plans and materials.
  • Uphold all staff safety requirements including cleaning protocols throughout the day.

What We're Looking For

  • A valid Florida Childcare Staff Credential.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years teaching in an early childhood setting.
  • A deep love for children, respect for parents, enjoyment of collaboration, and a commitment to self-development.
  • The ability to lead others and mentor classroom teachers as needed.
  • Strong teaching, student management, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills.
  • Successful completion of DCF background screening and association policies.
  • Infant/child CPR & First Aid certification.
  • Annual completion of YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens training.
  • Annual completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention class.
  • Completion of Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols.
  • Additional training classes as recommended for continuing education credit.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with at least 12 credit hours of child development, early childhood education, elementary education, or a related field.
  • Director Credential.

Team & Environment

You will report directly to the Early Learning Director.

This is an onsite position.
