9fin is seeking a Latin America Reporter (Andean Region) to join its team of financial journalists. The reporter will be expected to build their own source base and deliver market-moving insight and scoops on fast-moving, opaque, and complex financial markets, with full support and training provided.
What You'll Do
- Build sources with bankers, investors, traders, lawyers, and other key players in the credit markets.
- Write stories and investigative pieces covering markets.
- Work with other members of the Latin America-based journalist team to confirm information and produce collaborative content.
- Attend conferences, briefings, and other occasions to build and maintain source relationships.
- Receive formal and informal training in interviewing, source-building, news writing, media law, and financial markets.
What We're Looking For
- A proven interest in journalism, plus some experience writing for publication.
- A proven interest in finance, economics, and markets, with an understanding of basic concepts and terminology.
- The ability to work independently, with high accuracy and attention to detail.
- The ability to write concise and fluent English, making technical topics accessible and engaging.
Nice to Have
- Experience as a reporter working in the world of distressed/restructuring and/or leveraged finance.
- A desire to build strong sourcing relationships across finance professionals and embed deeply as a crucial part of the market.
- Ambitions to carve out a coverage area and build your own reputation as a financial journalist.
