Love’s Travel Stops is hiring a Laboratory Technician to support the safe, efficient, and compliant operations of its renewable diesel production facility. In this role, you will perform routine and non-routine analyses on feedstocks, intermediates, finished products, and environmental samples. Your work will be essential to ensuring product quality, regulatory compliance, and providing timely results to the operations and technical teams.
What You'll Do
- Collect, prepare, label, and handle samples following established procedures and safety requirements.
- Inspect, sample, and perform chemical and biological tests.
- Analyze samples to release or reject incoming feedstocks like fats, oils, and chemicals.
- Analyze samples to release or reject finished products, including Renewable Hydrocarbon Naphtha and Diesel.
- Analyze and interpret results for in-process streams within the production facility.
- Analyze and interpret results for utilities testing as required.
- Perform validation studies.
- Work with operations teams to understand the manufacturing process and provide analytical input.
- Promptly communicate off-spec or abnormal results to operations, engineering, or supervision.
- Participate in training, safety meetings, and incident investigations.
- Manage, inspect, and rotate out retention samples.
- Perform instrument maintenance, calibration, and verification of accuracy and precision.
- Handle laboratory supply inventory, ordering, and inspection of incoming supplies.
- Generate Certificates of Analysis (COA).
- Enter analysis results into databases and conduct trending of results.
- Maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.
- Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Teams.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform job duties.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Fit to perform essential job functions, including working in an industrial environment with potential chemical/atmospheric hazards requiring appropriate PPE.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including frequent walking, standing for extended periods, and lifting or carrying items weighing up to 40 lbs.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field (Chemistry or Biochemistry preferred).
- Prior experience with renewable diesel, biodiesel, petroleum refining, or fuel testing.
- Hands-on experience with ASTM fuel test methods and analytical instruments like GC, HPLC, ICP, or sulfur analyzers.
