Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, is seeking an IO Engineer with deep expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux. In this role, you will support the design, implementation, and management of our Linux-based infrastructure, contributing directly to system reliability, performance optimization, and infrastructure modernization.
What You'll Do
- Install, configure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers across production and non-production environments
- Manage user accounts, access controls, sudo policies, and authentication services like LDAP, AD integration, SSSD, and Kerberos
- Perform routine system updates, patching, kernel upgrades, and security hardening
- Configure and troubleshoot system services including systemd, SELinux, firewalld, NTP, DNS, and DHCP
- Monitor system health, performance, and capacity using enterprise monitoring tools
- Manage storage, logical volumes, file systems (ext4, XFS), and network file services (NFS, SMB)
- Support network configuration, routing, VLANs, bonding, and firewall rules
- Automate operational tasks using Bash, Python, or Ansible
- Participate in backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery planning and execution
- Provide technical guidance to application teams and collaborate with security, network, and cloud engineering groups
- Maintain accurate system documentation and operational procedures
- Participate in on-call rotation as needed
- Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to enhance productivity and innovation by streamlining workflows and automating repetitive tasks
What We're Looking For
- Strong technical expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration and enterprise operations
- Proven experience with system security, automation, and performance optimization
- Practical skills in managing authentication (LDAP, Active Directory, SSSD, Kerberos) and system services (systemd, SELinux, firewalld)
- Experience with core infrastructure services like NTP, DNS, and DHCP
- Hands-on experience with storage, file systems (ext4, XFS), and network file sharing (NFS, SMB)
- Proficiency in scripting and automation with Bash, Python, or Ansible
- Ability to monitor system health and capacity using enterprise tools
- Strong collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams
- Commitment to maintaining thorough documentation
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation
