About the Role

Washington University in St. Louis is seeking an Insurance/Billing Collection Assistant III to join the Department of Medicine Business Office. In this remote role, you will perform advanced billing and collection activities, acting as a Lead IBC Assistant to expedite payments for physician services.

What You'll Do

  • Perform insurance follow-up billing and collection duties on various financial classifications to ensure timely and accurate payment of physician charges.
  • Review patient accounts to verify the accuracy of information including insurance, eligibility, invoice resolution, correspondence, and remittances.
  • Utilize Epic EHR, system tools, and payer websites for claim submission, status checks, attachments, eligibility, and authorization inquiry.
  • Make collection calls to insurance companies and/or patients to ensure timely payment of claims.
  • Contact insurance companies regarding posting payments and collection agencies regarding payment reports.
  • Support the customer service unit in answering billing and collection questions.
  • Assist with training new staff.
  • Meet Quality Assurance (QA) and meaningful efficiency standards for working invoices each day, following best practices for one-touch resolution.
  • Interact with management and staff members to discuss issues.
  • May act as a Team Lead.
  • Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • 3 years of billing or insurance experience.

Nice to Have

  • Associate degree.

Team & Environment

You will act as the Lead IBC Assistant and may also act as a Team Lead.

  • Compensation: $20.57 - $30.84 per hour.
