Baylor College of Medicine is hiring an Instructor to practice in an advanced role providing developmentally and age-appropriate Palliative Care services. You will support patients and families both inpatient and in the ambulatory setting at Texas Children's Hospital, working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary health care team. You will assume independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of treatment to meet patient and family needs.
What You'll Do
- Provide age-appropriate care for one or more of the following age groups routinely: Neonate, Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult.
- Collect and evaluate health assessment data to provide appropriate palliative interventions.
- Obtain detailed patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant patient health concerns.
- Prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
- Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts.
- Monitor and ensure accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
- Provide follow-up health maintenance care in accordance with established protocols.
- Communicate with physicians, patients, and family members concerning patient care.
- Consistently demonstrate effective communication skills and work to eliminate communication barriers.
- Collaborate with providers and practice staff to identify appropriate patients for care management.
- Participate in departmental quality, education, and safety initiatives on an ongoing basis.
- Consistently seek and apply new knowledge relevant to nursing in clinical practice.
- Demonstrate current professional, managerial, and/or technical knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrate Nurse Practitioner role behaviors consistent with the development of advanced nursing practice.
What We're Looking For
- Master of Science in Nursing.
- Advanced Practitioner Registered Nurse license from the Texas Board of Nursing. This may be a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP), Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (ACPNP), or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) license.
- Specialty certification recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing, which must match your licensing specialty area.
- A minimum of three years of RN experience providing care in a hospital, outpatient, or hospice setting to chronic, complex patients or patients nearing end-of-life.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Nice to Have
- Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner with 3-5 years of experience as a nurse practitioner.
- Palliative care experience with the ability and comfort for inpatient and outpatient patient care.
