Community Residences is hiring an Instructor to provide direct support and skill development for clients with developmental disabilities. This role is responsible for creating a nurturing learning environment and implementing strategies that help clients effectively cope with daily living situations.
What You'll Do
- Create a nurturing, positive learning environment and develop strategies to help clients cope effectively with social, emotional, and physical situations of daily living.
- Implement Individual Plan of Care/Follow-Along Plans and record data on teaching strategies, behavior plans, and client progress.
- Monitor medical, physical, and behavioral changes daily and report changes to supervisory staff.
- Administer medication to clients at prescribed times in accordance with agency policy and regulatory standards.
- Monitor and assist in making medical appointments and assist with follow-through on doctors' orders.
- Participate in planning, purchasing, and preparing meals while following client dietary plans.
- Maintain the appearance, cleanliness, and upkeep of the residence, properties, and vehicle.
- Take individuals to community-based outings, ensuring all health and safety measures are followed.
- Provide accurate accounting of agency petty cash and client funds.
- Assure individuals' right to privacy and adhere to confidentiality policy.
- Participate in required training opportunities, including in-service training and staff meetings.
- Assist in developing positive neighborhood and community relationships.
What We're Looking For
- Ability to lift and transfer 70-75lbs.
- Ability to perform active work, both inside and outside of the home.
- Ability to utilize approved protective hold techniques.
- Valid CT driver's license and good driving record.
- Reliable transportation; may be required to utilize personal vehicle to transport clients.
- Demonstrate organizational ability and ability to communicate effectively with persons with developmental disabilities.
- Ability to communicate with people at various ability levels.
- Possess organizational abilities to implement programs and services designed to enhance the individual's learning process.
- Possess self-motivation.
- Display patience, encouraging attitude, optimism, energy, communication skills, and a nurturing temperament.
Nice to Have
- High school diploma or GED and at least two years of experience in the field of Human Services.
- Bachelor's degree in a related Human Services area in addition to experience.
Team & Environment
In this role, you will report to a Supervisor, RN Program Coordinator, Program Director, or Residential Program Manager.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position.
