Chesterfield County Public Schools is seeking an Instructional Assistant - Special Education 1:1 to provide classroom and environmental supports for a student with an Individualized Education Program (IEP). You will work under the direction of a special education teacher in both general and special education settings, performing instructional and clerical tasks to support student success.
What You'll Do
- Assist special education teachers with classroom duties, including recording grades, preparing instructional materials, and administering instructional and testing accommodations.
- Support students during instructional activities (e.g., one-on-one, small groups, whole group) as directed and document student progress.
- Assist students onto and off the school bus and supervise students at lunch and recess as indicated in the IEP.
- Serve as an aide on the school bus, both to and from school, as indicated in the IEP.
- Work with students under the direction of special education teachers and related services providers to implement the child’s IEP.
- Participate in training and implement support for students related to toileting, personal care, and basic healthcare needs (e.g., using a Hoyer lift, tube feeding, seizure intervention) as indicated in the IEP. May serve in the absence of the clinic assistant if trained.
- Implement accommodations in a child’s IEP as directed by the special education teacher.
- Provide clerical assistance – typing, filing, maintaining records, and ordering supplies and classroom materials.
- Perform other related duties as required.
What We're Looking For
- A High School diploma, training, or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification. Individuals must attend provided training and renew as mandated.
- Some knowledge of childhood growth and development, behavior management techniques, clerical procedures, and general academic subjects sufficient to teach others.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise children in the absence of the teacher, perform basic clerical tasks, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to work professionally with students and staff.
- Successfully complete background investigations/tests: FBI Criminal History Investigation, State Police Criminal History Investigation, Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation, Tuberculosis Screening/Test.
