Vaughan Regional Medical Center, part of ScionHealth, is hiring an ICU RN. This role provides quality patient care to critically ill patients through the nursing process of Assessment, Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation. You will serve as a patient advocate and supervise nursing care provided by other caregivers within our culture that empowers caregivers, values every voice, and leans into new ideas.
What You'll Do
- Maintain the standard of nursing care and implement hospital and nursing department policies and procedures.
- Assess patients on admission within required time frames and develop/update nursing care plans in coordination with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team.
- Document patient admission assessments, reassessments, care plans, and other pertinent information in the patient’s electronic medical record.
- Demonstrate correct use of biomedical equipment such as defibrillators, suction machines, IV and feeding pumps, PCA pumps, and blood glucose monitoring machines.
- Receive physician’s orders, ensure accurate transcription, and follow through to ensure orders are carried out.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to patient changes in condition, institute emergency action, notify physicians, and obtain orders.
- Administer medications with knowledge of action, side effects, correct dosages, and routes according to ICU policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate ability to recognize and institute arrhythmia protocol for various cardiac rhythms.
- Direct, supervise, and evaluate nursing care provided to patients.
- Assist physicians with special tests and procedures such as thoracentesis, paracentesis, arterial line insertion, and bronchoscopy.
- Coordinate nursing care when patients are scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments.
- Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, or sepsis.
- Provide assessment utilizing current ACLS certification and protocols, render lifesaving first aid, and make appropriate referrals.
- Demonstrate ability to manage various tubes and devices such as Foley catheters, feeding tubes, chest tubes, JP drains, and wound drains.
- Demonstrate correct setup and performance monitoring of hemodynamic systems such as Swan-Ganz catheters and arterial catheters.
- Participate in assessing and meeting patient and family education needs.
- Provide a complete patient report to the oncoming RN, ensure documentation is complete, physician orders are signed off, and patient rooms are in order.
- Complete annual health, safety, and education requirements and maintain professional growth and development.
- Attend all mandatory in-services and staff meetings.
- Demonstrate Guest Relations skills to patients, physicians, visitors, employees, and others.
What We're Looking For
- Graduate from an accredited Registered Nursing program.
- Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure upon hire.
- BCLS - Basic Life Support certification (Facility-Specified).
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (Facility-Specified).
- Minimum of one year training and experience in Critical Care.
- Able to communicate effectively in English - both written and verbal.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
- Must have good and regular attendance.
- Ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities, and function under stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain a good working relationship with co-workers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
