The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) is looking for a professional to empower global investigative journalism with Neo4j graph technology. You will help our network of reporters analyze complex data and uncover hidden relationships in major international stories.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain graph database systems using Neo4j to support investigative projects
- Design data models and workflows for analyzing interconnected datasets
- Collaborate with journalists and data engineers to surface insights from large-scale leaks and public records
- Optimize queries and data pipelines for performance and clarity
- Create tools and documentation that enable journalists to explore data relationships independently
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience implementing and working with Neo4j or similar graph database technologies
- Strong data modeling skills, especially for complex, interconnected datasets
- Ability to translate journalistic questions into technical data exploration strategies
- Experience with data analysis, ETL processes, and scripting languages (e.g., Python)
- Excellent communication skills to bridge technical and non-technical teams
- Passion for supporting accountability journalism and the public interest
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with data journalism tools and ecosystems
- Experience with data visualization principles and tools
- Knowledge of additional database systems and cloud infrastructure
- Background in or understanding of investigative reporting processes
