About the Role

The Hydroecologist will support hydroecological assessments and the restoration of aquatic systems, contributing to tangible improvements in river catchments across the UK and overseas. This role involves collaboration with water resource specialists, engineers, and planners within a multidisciplinary team focused on technical excellence and innovation in water management at AtkinsRéalis.

What You'll Do

  • Support water resource investigations through the delivery of hydroecological assessments
  • Develop and apply habitat and biological response models to hydroecological investigations for water company and regulatory clients
  • Support the development and application of emerging approaches to hydroecological modelling
  • Support technical development of staff within the aquatic ecology team
  • Provide ecological input to projects including field surveys and technical reporting
  • Assist in the delivery of catchment science projects with a focus on river and wetland function, habitat design, management and restoration, hydroecology, ecological impact assessment, Water Framework Directive compliance, and Biodiversity Net Gain
  • Maintain excellent relationships with environmental scientists, engineers, and planning consultants across AtkinsRéalis to deliver integrated client services
  • Support the team in winning work from internal and external clients
  • Develop technical skills through Continuing Professional Development

What We're Looking For

  • Degree in a relevant discipline (essential)
  • Experience of undertaking hydroecology and freshwater ecology assessments focused on freshwater aquatic habitats and species
  • Highly numerate, literate, and familiar with IT and software appropriate to hydroecological tasks
  • Highly motivated and proactive with a focus on achieving and delivering technical excellence
  • Skilled at collaborative working, with good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively
  • Flexible, 'hands-on', proactive approach to work
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
  • Comfortable applying skills in a commercial environment

Nice to Have

  • Post-graduate qualification with focus on hydroecology and/or catchment management
  • Willingness to work towards securing chartership, with support and mentorship from chartered colleagues
