UPMC Greene is hiring a Histotechnician to process and prepare tissue samples using a variety of techniques in the clinical laboratory. You'll embed, cut, and stain surgical and autopsy tissue specimens, playing a critical role in patient diagnostics.
What You'll Do
- Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining, and coverslipping.
- Embed and cut specialized tissue, including minute biopsy protocols.
- Ensure all tissues are embedded and cut according to department-specific protocols with proper orientation.
- Perform QC checks at each phase of processing and staining.
- Accurately prepare slides for microtomy using barcode labels to maintain correct patient identification.
- Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols.
- Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow.
- Demonstrate progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area.
- Support the academic mission of the department.
- Perform ancillary tasks such as filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies.
- Comply with all UPMC and departmental policies, procedures, and work practices.
What We're Looking For
- A high school diploma.
- Completion of the educational requirements needed to take the Histotechnician (HT) exam.
- This includes successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years, OR an Associate's degree, OR at least 60 semester hours of academic credit with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry.
- ASCP Histology Technician (HT) certification from ASCP is required within 18 months of hire.
- Act 34 clearance.
Nice to Have
- 1 year of clinical laboratory experience post-training.
