Alabama Virtual Academy (ALVA), a Stride K12 partner school, seeks a highly qualified and state-certified High School English Teacher. You will be responsible for delivering specific English course content in an online environment, providing instruction, support, and guidance while managing the learning process from your home. This role focuses on personalizing education to meet the individual needs of each student.
What You'll Do
- Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
- Commit to personalizing learning for all students and demonstrate a belief in their ability to succeed.
- Differentiate instruction based on student level of mastery.
- Augment course content using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools under guidance from principal and coach.
- Maintain grade book ensuring academic integrity and make student placement and promotion decisions.
- Alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress.
- Prepare students for high stakes standardized tests.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with families, communicating with students and learning coaches in a timely manner.
- Support learning coaches with student curricular and instructional issues, and basic troubleshooting.
- Monitor student progress through Stride K12’s learning management system.
- Work closely with students and parents to advance each student’s learning toward established goals.
- Travel as required (approximately 20% of the time) for professional development, student testing, and school requirements.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree.
- Active Alabama 6-12 English Teaching Certificate.
- Ability to clear required background check.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with the proposed age group.
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
- Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or in a brick-and-mortar environment.
- Experience with online learning platforms.
- Ability to work collaboratively to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data to drive instructional decisions.
- Receptive to receiving coaching regularly with administrators and teacher trainers.
- Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint.
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
- Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs and curriculum.
