Position Overview
This role is for a Helicopter Pilot supporting regional relief operations under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) in the North Central United States. The pilot ensures safe and compliant aircraft operations while enabling timely medical transport for patients in critical condition. This position operates within a 24/7 emergency response framework and requires strict adherence to aviation standards and company protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct flights in accordance with federal aviation regulations and internal safety policies
- Complete pre-flight and post-flight inspections, including verification of aircraft airworthiness through proper documentation
- Perform comprehensive walk-around checks before and after each flight
- Exercise final decision-making authority over aircraft operations and onboard safety
- Ensure familiarity with both aircraft systems and medical equipment configurations, including those on backup units
- Verify that medical crew members are oriented to the aircraft’s interior layout and systems
- Carry out detailed flight planning under time constraints and to high precision standards
- Complete all required operational records and reports accurately and on time
- Attend regular company meetings, training sessions, and outreach initiatives
- Maintain consistent attendance as a core requirement of the role
Required Qualifications
- Residency in ID, UT, MT, CO, WY, ND, SD, NE, IA, or adjacent states
- Minimum 2,000 total flight hours, with at least 1,500 in category
- 1,000 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) in category
- 500 hours of turbine-powered rotorcraft experience
- 200 hours cross-country flying, including 50 at night
- 100 hours of unaided night flying as PIC (up to 50 hours may be substituted with NVG time, but minimum 50 unaided hours required)
- 50 hours of actual or simulated instrument time in rotorcraft (reduced to 25 hours if 100+ FW instrument hours)
- Instrument rating in applicable category and class (ATP rating satisfies this)
- Multiengine fixed-wing rating for twin-engine aircraft; commercial single-engine land rating for single-engine aircraft
- Valid First or Second Class FAA Medical Certificate
- Weight not exceeding 250 pounds
- Age under 70 years
- Recent flight experience in category within the past 24 months
- Full understanding of FARs, AIM, GOM, and company procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Two to five years of relevant experience or training
- Associate degree or equivalent from an accredited technical institution
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary ranges from $91,190 to $102,576. Additional financial incentives include a $20,000 stipend, experience-based stipend of up to $12,000, and a $15,000 sign-on bonus. This position operates across multiple states including ID, UT, MT, CO, WY, ND, SD, NE, and IA. Schedule follows non-standard hours to support continuous 24/7 operations. Pilots must be prepared for variable shifts and on-call responsibilities.
