Photoroom is looking for a Head of Cross-Platform to lead our world-class Rust team. You will drive the long-term technical vision for our internal SDK and make bold strategic bets, managing the team that powers our iOS, Android, Web, and API platforms.
What You'll Do
- Own long-term strategy and execution of our internal Rust-based engine, including rendering, document model, data synchronization, and realtime collaboration.
- Serve as the keystone behind our iOS, Android, Web apps, and API through cross-functional partnership.
- Scale the team while maintaining culture and excellence, fostering knowledge-sharing and bottom-up initiatives.
- Ensure technical excellence through code review, performance optimization, and troubleshooting complex issues.
- Establish technical direction for ambitious goals around agentic image editing.
- Advance the wgpu-based rendering pipeline for a best-in-class editing experience.
- Create space for calculated risk-taking alongside rapid shipping excellence.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience leading deeply technical teams within product companies.
- Strategic decision-making experience.
- Hiring and mentorship experience.
- Technical depth for mentorship: ability to spot code issues, debug failures, and analyze performance bottlenecks.
- Cross-platform experience building tools and libraries aimed at being consumed by other developers, in Rust or C/C++.
- Cross-functional collaboration skills, working closely with other Engineering teams, Product, Sales, etc.
- Ability to simplify deeply technical topics into understandable terms.
- Empowering leadership style with technical credibility: can set context, maintain hands-on expertise, and conduct effective code reviews.
Nice to Have
- Experience with or leading engineers working on rendering APIs: OpenGL, WebGL, Vulkan, Metal, WebGPU, DX12, etc.
- Experience ensuring maintainability and scalability of large (100k+ LOC) Rust codebases.
- Experience with text-rendering pipelines or vector-graphics editing pipelines.
