Owlet Baby Care, Inc. is seeking a Head of AI Engineering to lead the integration of advanced AI and Machine Learning across all products, including the Dream Sock and Owlet Cameras. You will establish and deploy the next generation of AI-powered solutions to deliver predictive, personalized, and proactive insights for parents while enhancing our software development lifecycle.

What You'll Do

• Lead the full lifecycle of AI and Machine Learning solutions for core products and subscription offerings.
• Dive deep into Generative AI to explore and implement applications that upgrade the user experience.
• Enhance predictive and personalized insights derived from product data using advanced ML algorithms.
• Craft a clear, actionable AI strategy aligned with business goals, product roadmap, and regulations.
• Communicate AI strategy effectively to the executive team, engineers, and external partners.
• Work hand-in-hand with Product Management, Engineering, and Quality Assurance to define AI-driven features, ensure smooth integration, and set up rigorous testing.
• Actively contribute to technical implementation and ensure successful delivery of AI solutions.
• Advocate for Ethical AI and Responsible Innovation, ensuring initiatives follow high standards for data privacy, security, transparency, and ethics.
• Set up robust MLOps pipelines on Google Cloud for continuous integration, delivery, deployment, monitoring, and retraining of ML models.
• Automate model versioning, rigorous testing, seamless deployment, and smart rollback strategies.
• Champion the use of AI/ML tools to improve the software development lifecycle, including automating test case generation and intelligently prioritizing bugs.
• Define and evolve Owlet's AI infrastructure strategy, maximizing the value from Google Cloud's AI/ML services.
• Deliver architectural solutions that are secure, cost-effective, and highly performant.
• Build scalable data pipelines for real-time IoT data, ensuring top-notch data quality and governance.

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of growing experience in Machine Learning Engineering and AI/ML Solutions Architecture.
• Exceptional proficiency in Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) with hands-on experience in fine-tuning, prompt engineering, and deployment.
• Deep expertise in AI/ML system design, including building and deploying scalable, reliable systems across various model types.
• Proven experience with Computer Vision and image processing techniques for real-time applications.
• Mastery of MLOps principles and tools like MLflow, Kubeflow, Airflow, TensorBoard, and DataRobot.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) AI/ML services, including Vertex AI, BigQuery ML, GKE, Cloud Storage, and Pub/Sub.
• Comfort with TensorFlow Enterprise and other open-source ML frameworks like PyTorch optimized for Google Cloud.
• Strong strategic vision with the ability to turn big AI ideas into actionable roadmaps and drive execution across teams.
• Amazing communication and collaboration skills to explain complex technical concepts to engineers, executives, and non-technical teams.
• Experience with consumer IoT products, particularly within the health technology or wearable devices sector.
• Strong understanding of data privacy regulations (like HIPAA), security best practices for IoT and health data, and ethical considerations in AI.

Nice to Have

• Experience with FDA-cleared or other regulated health tech products and navigating compliance requirements.
• Successfully launched multiple AI/ML projects that are actively used by people, showing real impact.
• Contributed to open-source AI/ML projects or research.
• Direct experience in significantly boosting Software Development Lifecycle speed, quality, or efficiency using AI/ML.
