Responsibilities
- AI Product Innovation & Development You'll lead the full lifecycle of AI and Machine Learning solutions for our core products like the Dream Sock, Owlet Cameras, and our subscription offerings. Figure out the most impactful ways to use AI, design scalable solutions, and make sure they get built right. A big part of your role will be diving deep into Generative AI. You'll explore and implement applications to upgrade the user experience. You will enhance predictive and personalized insights derived from our rich product data. This involves leveraging advanced ML algorithms to convert comprehensive data into actionable, anticipatory insights for parents.
- Strategic Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration You'll craft a clear, actionable AI strategy that aligns with Owlet's business goals, product roadmap, and the relevant regulations. Communicate this strategy effectively to everyone, from our executive team to our engineers and external partners. Work hand-in-hand with Product Management to define new AI-driven features, partner with Engineering for smooth integration, and team up with Quality Assurance to set up rigorous testing for all our AI systems. Be a hands-on leader, actively contributing to the technical implementation and ensuring successful delivery of AI solutions in close partnership with engineering, product, and data teams. Be a strong advocate for Ethical AI and Responsible Innovation. You'll ensure all our AI initiatives follow the highest standards for data privacy, security, transparency, and ethics. You'll help us build a culture of responsible AI development and deployment across the company.
- AI for SDLC Enhancement & MLOps You'll set up robust MLOps (Machine Learning Operations) pipelines on Google Cloud. This means making sure our ML models are continuously integrated, delivered, deployed, monitored, and retrained. Automate model versioning, rigorous testing, seamless deployment, and smart rollback strategies. Be the champion for using AI/ML tools and techniques to improve our software development lifecycle. This includes things like automating test case generation, intelligently prioritizing bugs, and even predicting when our software systems might need maintenance. You'll leverage existing tools across the entire SDLC for development, testing, deployment, and application management.
- Google Cloud AI Platform Leadership You'll define and evolve Owlet's AI infrastructure strategy, making sure we're getting the most out of Google Cloud's AI/ML services for everything from data intake to model training, inference, and scalable deployment while embracing open source technologies. Deliver architectural solutions that are secure, cost-effective, and highly performant. Maximize the value we get from Google Cloud's specialized AI/ML offerings, including Vertex AI (for custom model training and foundation models like Gemini), BigQuery ML (for in-database ML and generative AI), and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) for super-efficient model inference, especially with GPUs and TPUs. Build scalable data pipelines for real-time IoT data, ensuring top-notch data quality and governance for all our health-related information.
Requirements
- 8+ years of growing experience in Machine Learning Engineering and AI/ML Solutions Architecture. You've got a solid track record of taking complex AI/ML products from idea to full-scale production.
- Exceptional proficiency in Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs). You've got hands-on experience with fine-tuning, prompt engineering, and deploying generative AI solutions for diverse applications, such as content creation, conversational AI, and personalized experiences.
- Deep expertise in AI/ML system design. You know how to build and deploy scalable, reliable AI/ML systems, with hands-on experience across various model types (deep learning, time-series, anomaly detection, NLP). You're solid on training, evaluation, inference, and optimization.
- Proven experience with Computer Vision and image processing techniques, including object detection, image classification, and video analytics, especially for real-time applications.
- Mastery of MLOps principles and tools (like MLflow, Kubeflow, Airflow, TensorBoard, DataRobot) to manage the entire Machine Learning lifecycle.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) AI/ML services is a must, since that's our cloud home. This includes Vertex AI, BigQuery ML, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Cloud Storage, and Pub/Sub. You're comfortable with TensorFlow Enterprise and other big open-source ML frameworks (like PyTorch) optimized for Google Cloud.
- You have a strong strategic vision and can actually make things happen. You're great at turning big AI ideas into actionable roadmaps and driving their execution across different teams. Amazing communication and collaboration skills. You can explain complex technical stuff clearly to anyone, from engineers to executives and non-technical product teams. You've got a proven track record of working well with cross-functional teams.
- Experience with consumer IoT products, particularly within the health technology or wearable devices sector. Strong understanding of data privacy regulations (like HIPAA), security best practices for IoT and health data, and ethical considerations in AI development and deployment.
Nice to Have
- Experience with FDA-cleared or other regulated health tech products and navigating those compliance requirements.
- You've successfully launched not just one, but multiple AI/ML projects that are actively used by people, showing real impact.
