ChainGPT is hiring a Head of Accounting for Europe, a Controller-level role responsible for owning end-to-end accounting and core finance operations across a multi-entity group operating in several jurisdictions. This is a hands-on operator position accountable for maintaining audit-ready books, disciplined controls, and compliant reporting for both crypto and fiat activity.
What You'll Do
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close across all entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, accruals, prepaids, FX revaluation, and supporting schedules.
- Run a standard close calendar and checklist, driving the process to completion with clear deadlines and accountability.
- Maintain and consistently clear a monthly exceptions queue for missing invoices, unidentified flows, and stale reconciliation items.
- Ensure all documentation is audit-ready by default, with organized evidence chains and clean support for every material balance and transaction.
- Own bookkeeping across all entities, ensuring consistent policies, coding, and documentation standards.
- Maintain clean intercompany operations, including invoicing, reconciliations, balances, and interest accruals where applicable.
- Support arm’s-length and related-party hygiene with clear narratives and supporting agreements, approvals, invoices, and reconciliations.
- Lead end-to-end crypto transaction accounting across wallets, exchanges, custodians, networks, and tokens.
- Ensure crypto balances are reconciled and supported with strong audit trails using wallet addresses, transaction hashes, and exchange statements.
- Maintain clear classification rules for crypto flows such as revenue, other income, custody transfers, external payments, gas fees, staking, airdrops, and liquidity provision.
- Maintain schedules for realized vs unrealized gains/losses and cost basis/lots for reporting and CPA support.
- Implement and maintain finance controls appropriate for a lean team, covering approvals, segregation of duties, and documentation standards.
- Maintain a compliance calendar with external advisors and ensure recurring obligations are tracked and supported.
- Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, tax providers, and legal counsel to support multi-jurisdiction requirements.
- Deliver clear, management-ready reporting including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow statements, and concise variance narratives.
- Produce burn reporting and spend insights with analysis of top vendors, categories, drivers, and recommendations for savings.
- Support the budgeting and forecasting cadence, including the annual budget, rolling forecast, and budget vs actual variance explanations.
- Maintain visibility across fiat accounts and crypto holdings, supporting payment operations with strong authorization and recordkeeping.
- Produce regular cash and treasury reporting covering balances, upcoming obligations, runway snapshots, and operational risk flags.
