Role Overview

This position drives the design and execution of grid modernization initiatives in Brazil, focusing on digital transformation, distributed energy resources (DER), and battery energy storage systems (BESS). Reporting to the Country Delivery Lead with alignment to global leadership, the consultant will coordinate with utility partners, government agencies, and technical teams to advance pilot programs and innovation challenges that support resilient, low-carbon power systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main point of contact for designated Champion Utilities, guiding collaboration and implementation
  • Support the development and activation of a Memorandum of Understanding with utility partners
  • Identify priority regions for pilot deployment and draft technical concept notes covering digitalization, flexibility, and BESS integration
  • Organize and lead training sessions and technical workshops with utility personnel
  • Maintain active engagement with key institutions including ANEEL, EPE, ONS, MME, and state-level stakeholders
  • Evaluate regulatory landscapes impacting DER adoption, storage monetization, and capacity mechanisms
  • Diagnose implementation barriers and recommend actionable pathways for pilot advancement
  • Assist in structuring and launching an Innovation Challenge to attract technology providers and startups
  • Engage with universities, co-funders, and private sector partners to expand project reach
  • Provide technical guidance on grid digitalization, value stacking, and flexibility strategies
  • Support integration of digital twin technologies and distributed energy resources
  • Contribute to funding proposals, donor materials, and strategic concept notes
  • Represent the initiative at national and regional forums
  • Deliver regular progress updates to internal teams and partners
  • Develop stakeholder maps and technical briefs to inform program direction

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, or Power Systems
  • 8–12 years of professional experience in Brazil’s electricity sector
  • Deep knowledge of distribution networks, renewable integration, energy storage, and ANEEL regulations
  • Proven track record working with utilities, regulators, system operators, or planning bodies—particularly on innovation pilots or climate finance
  • Strong project and stakeholder management capabilities
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, or Power Systems
  • Advanced proficiency in Spanish

Compensation & Engagement

Full-time equivalent consulting fee benchmark: $60,000–80,000 USD annually. Final compensation is determined by location, market standards, individual expertise, and scope of work. Contract extension is possible based on performance and program needs.

Work Mode

This role is based locally in Brazil, with primary alignment to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, or Brasília. Work is fully remote with anticipated travel across Brazil for stakeholder meetings and field activities.
