Ohio Attorney General's Office is hiring a Forensic Accountant

This position supports criminal investigations by conducting in-depth financial analyses to detect fraud, trace illicit funds, and uncover hidden assets. As a key member of the investigative team, the forensic accountant examines financial records, identifies suspicious transactions, and builds clear financial narratives for both internal review and legal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead financial investigations into suspected fraud, money laundering, and asset concealment
  • Analyze complex financial data using advanced Excel techniques to identify patterns and anomalies
  • Prepare comprehensive reports that meet professional accounting standards
  • Communicate findings clearly to agency personnel and legal teams through written summaries and presentations
  • Testify as an expert witness in court when required
  • Support supervisors with research on financial crime trends and investigative strategies
  • Assess incoming investigation requests and recommend next steps based on financial indicators

Qualifications

  • Must hold an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Audit, Business, or a related field
  • Minimum of four years of professional experience in forensic accounting, auditing, or investigative roles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and modeling
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel during work hours
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to team objectives

Work Environment

This is a hybrid role with about three days per week expected in one of the bureau’s field locations—London, Richfield, Boardman, Athens, or Bowling Green. Occasional travel may be required during business hours using a state vehicle. Candidates within 45 miles of a bureau location are preferred.
