About the Role

FlatWorld Publishing is hiring a Sales Representative to join our mission of bringing textbook prices back down to earth. In this role, you will be responsible for persuading faculty in the Bay Area territory to adopt FlatWorld's digital-first textbooks and Homework system. You will create and execute a territory plan, uncover opportunities, and drive new business through direct outreach and relationship building, with compensation heavily based on uncapped commissions.

What You'll Do

  • Create and execute a territory plan, focusing on larger, Tier 1 accounts.
  • Maintain good relationships with current textbook adopters.
  • Uncover opportunities by responding to inbound inquiries and directly identifying opportunities at Tier 1 accounts.
  • Communicate FlatWorld's mission, value proposition, and solutions to prospective customers.
  • Attain and surpass sales goals by building relationships and growing awareness of FlatWorld as an alternative.
  • Listen for faculty friction points with their current textbook and persuade them to switch to FlatWorld.
  • Use Salesforce to create and update account and contact information.
  • Search College and University websites for teaching assignments and faculty information.
  • Search College and University bookstore websites to determine products currently in use for targeted courses.
  • Follow-up with instructors using email, calls, Google Meet, or Zoom to close sales.
  • Demo FlatWorld's assessment platform and associated suite of products using a consultative sales methodology.
  • Work with adopting instructors and the Customer Success team to ensure student access at the start of the semester.
  • Develop selling skills independently by synthesizing information from peers, management, and sales tools.
  • Manage company resources with compliance, including company laptop, equipment, and marketing collateral.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four year college or university.
  • Superior listening, oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent organization and follow through skills.
  • Accomplished range of skills from strategic thinking to creative and detailed execution.
  • Very comfortable with technology and learning new tools (Mac environment, Google Meet, Zoom, Salesforce, Slack, Google Suite).
  • Ability to forge relationships internally and externally.
  • Ability to work with and maintain a sense of urgency.
  • Strategic skills to triage a large territory.
  • Relentless hunger for new business.
  • Tenacity to see a sale through to the end.
  • Motivation to reshape an industry.
  • Required to live in the territory (Bay Area).
  • Requires 40+ hours per week (Monday - Friday).
  • Comfortable working autonomously.

Nice to Have

  • Some prior sales skills and higher education experience.
  • Transitioning teachers are encouraged to apply.

Team & Environment

You will initially join a team of Publishing Sales Representatives. You'll work remotely during training and ramp period, then transition to field work on campus, reporting to a Manager.

  • Compensation: $50,000 - $60,000 Annual Base Pay + uncapped commissions.
