AECOM is hiring a Fire Protection Engineer

About the Role

Support the development and execution of fire protection engineering solutions for a variety of building types. Work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate fire safety systems in alignment with codes and client requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop fire suppression and detection system designs for commercial and industrial structures
  • Conduct fire hazard and risk assessments for new and existing facilities
  • Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and calculation reports
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable fire safety codes and standards
  • Collaborate with architects and engineers during project planning phases
  • Review construction documents for fire protection system accuracy
  • Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler system performance
  • Support project management with scheduling and budget estimates
  • Inspect installed systems to verify adherence to design plans
  • Assist in commissioning fire safety systems
  • Respond to client inquiries regarding fire protection requirements
  • Participate in design coordination meetings
  • Evaluate building layouts for optimal fire system placement
  • Stay current with changes in fire protection regulations
  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff
  • Contribute to fire modeling and egress analysis
  • Assist in preparing permit applications for fire departments
  • Troubleshoot design issues during construction
  • Review shop drawings from contractors
  • Support sustainable design initiatives related to fire safety
  • Maintain documentation for system certifications
  • Work across multiple project types including transportation, healthcare, and government facilities
  • Use engineering software for system design and analysis
  • Coordinate with authorities having jurisdiction
  • Ensure integration of fire alarms with other building systems
