About the Role

The Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County is hiring a Financial Investigative Auditor to manage and review guardianships and conservatorships under the Davidson County Probate Court. You will perform financial analysis to protect the assets of wards and ensure fiduciary duties are upheld.

What You'll Do

  • Review and audit financial reports, bank statements, and records for wards' estates in Davidson County.
  • Analyze the guardian or conservator’s management of an estate, which may include physical visits to view property.
  • Assist the Director in maintaining a working database of all guardianships and conservatorships.
  • Perform tasks such as covering phones and preparing detailed reports and exhibits for court filings.
  • Conduct financial analysis to review records for anomalies, fraud, or transactions not in a ward's best interest.
  • Collect and preserve financial records and data from service providers as evidence for investigations.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify red flags and evaluate financial risks to estates.
  • Interview conservators, guardians, service providers, and other relevant parties.

What We're Looking For

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business.
  • Professional experience in accounting or auditing.
  • A strong understanding of generally accepted accounting and auditing standards, principles, and procedures.
  • The ability to perform needed tasks on a computer.
  • Strong organization, communication, and writing skills.

Nice to Have

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credentials.
  • Specific experience in the area of guardianships and conservatorships.
  • Auditing experience, specifically conducting forensic audits in estates or other probate matters.
  • Knowledge of trust law, especially Special Needs and Spend Thrift trusts.
  • Financial Literacy – a clear understanding of sound money management, including banking, budgeting, investing, and asset protection.
  • Analytical Thinking – the ability to dissect large volumes of data and identify subtle anomalies.
  • Attention to Detail – precision in examining documents to ensure findings are accurate and well-supported.

Team & Environment

This role reports directly to the Director of the Office of Conservatorship Management.

This is an onsite position located in Nashville, TN at the Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County.
