The Financial Controller is responsible for leading all aspects of accounting and financial reporting to ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role ensures that financial statements are prepared in accordance with US GAAP and delivered on time each month, quarter, and year-end.
What You'll Do
- Lead and streamline the financial close process, reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and consolidations across multiple entities
- Produce detailed financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports, with clear variance analysis and commentary
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, and billing processes to improve working capital and reduce DSO
- Manage cash flow forecasting, liquidity monitoring, and banking relationships, ensuring compliance with any financial covenants
- Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and SOPs to support audit readiness and regulatory compliance
- Lead coordination with external auditors, managing requests, preparing schedules, and resolving findings
- Ensure timely and accurate tax filings for sales, property, payroll, and income taxes, working with external advisors as needed
- Supervise payroll and benefits accounting, verifying proper classification and reconciliation of related expenses
- Drive automation and system improvements in accounting processes, including ERP configuration and integration support
- Ensure compliance with revenue recognition standards, including contract reviews and performance obligation assessments under ASC 606
- Manage fixed asset accounting, capitalization policies, lease accounting, and depreciation schedules
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities with detailed spend analysis and reporting
- Develop and mentor accounting staff, setting performance standards and fostering professional growth
- Support mergers and acquisitions through due diligence, purchase accounting, and integration of financial systems and policies
- Advise leadership on the financial implications of business decisions, identifying risks and opportunities
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or Controller-level role
- Strong command of US GAAP, internal controls, and audit procedures
- Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets for modeling, reconciliations, and financial analysis
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts clearly
- High attention to detail, sound judgment, and reliability in meeting deadlines
- Experience managing multi-state operations, multiple legal entities, and intercompany accounting
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or ACCA designation preferred
- Background in service-based, SaaS, or subscription revenue models
- Experience with M&A integrations, system migrations, and purchase accounting
