Field Service Technician (Swing Shift) – Onsite Role with Regional Travel
Role Overview
This position supports the operation and reliability of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and solid oxide electrolyzer (SOEC) systems through direct field service. Technicians work during swing shift hours and are responsible for maintaining system performance, conducting diagnostics, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Work is performed primarily in the field, often independently, across a designated service region.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform on-site maintenance, repairs, and system testing for fuel cell and electrolyzer units
- Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical issues using technical documentation and test equipment
- Follow safety protocols including OSHA and NFPA 70E when working with high-voltage systems
- Interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical manuals
- Manage daily task assignments and maintain workflow efficiency without direct supervision
- Operate and maintain a company service vehicle, including inventory of tools and spare parts
- Document service activities with accurate, timely reports
- Support customer relationships through professional on-site conduct and clear communication
- Respond to on-call duties as part of a rotating 24x7 schedule
- Travel regularly within the service district and occasionally to other U.S. or international locations
Qualifications
Candidates must have a strong foundation in electrical systems and field service. Acceptable qualifications include:
- High school diploma with six years of hands-on experience in electrical, controls, or electro-mechanical systems
- Technical diploma or certification (e.g., Electrician, Journeymen) plus four years of relevant field experience
- Military technical experience in electrical or power systems with equivalent civilian application
Required skills include proficiency with three-phase power, UPS systems, power electronics, and microprocessor-based controls. Familiarity with ANSI/NETA maintenance standards and experience using electrical test equipment are essential.
Work Environment
Technicians must be able to work in industrial settings, often at elevated heights and in varying weather conditions. Physical demands include lifting up to 70 pounds, frequent bending, reaching, and ladder use. Shift flexibility is required, including alternative weekly schedules (e.g., Wednesday–Sunday for one week per month), overtime, and on-call availability.
Training & Location
Initial training consists of two four-week sessions in San Jose, CA. Primary work locations are in Connecticut and Upstate New York. Candidates must reside within the assigned service district. Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.
Compensation & Benefits
