The Field Service Technician performs mechanical and electrical field service tasks on gas engines, including commissioning, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and minor overhauls. Work is conducted on-site across North America with a focus on safety, technical accuracy, and direct customer engagement. The role involves significant travel and remote work as needed.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine engine maintenance according to established protocols, including oil checks, filter and valve replacements, and various measurements.
- Conduct minor repairs beyond scheduled maintenance as required.
- Carry out major engine servicing in coordination with team members, following defined procedures.
- Coordinate with external specialists and suppliers for specialized tasks.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards.
- Diagnose engine failures involving mechanical, electronic, and software systems, using historical performance data.
- Troubleshoot issues in the field related to engine mechanics and electrical systems.
- Prepare detailed site visit reports documenting the reason for service, observed symptoms, actions taken, materials and parts used, labor hours, outcomes, and recommended follow-up.
- Document recurring faults and analyze root causes to support long-term reliability improvements.
- Maintain a fully stocked and organized service vehicle with approved spare parts and ensure a clean, safe work environment.
- Work both independently and collaboratively within a team of technicians.
- Submit timesheets, expense reports, EHS documentation, and job reports promptly.
- Adhere to all Environmental Health and Safety policies to maintain secure work conditions.
- Complete additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 80% of the time.
- Ability to work remotely when necessary.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
- Ability to meet and maintain insurability requirements for operating company vehicles.
Nice to Have
- Four years of experience with reciprocating engines.
- Prior experience in engine commissioning.
- Background as an automotive mechanic or electrician.
- Formal training as a Mechanical or Electrical Technician or higher.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations after training.
- Residence in or willingness to relocate to West Texas.
- Familiarity with working independently in remote locations.
