About the Role

UBC Sauder School of Business is hiring a Field Experience Manager to provide strategic leadership in coordinating and implementing field experiences for teacher candidates and interns within the Okanagan School of Education (OSE). You will translate the OSE’s academic vision into impactful, field-based learning experiences aligned with the B.Ed. program’s INSPIRE framework.

What You'll Do

  • Provide direct supervision, performance management, and mentorship to the team of Field Advisors and Field Observers.
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, training, and professional development planning for the FA/FO team.
  • Establish performance expectations and accountability measures for the team.
  • Chair regular team meetings to align on priorities and coordinate student progress interventions.
  • Develop and implement evaluation mechanisms to improve field advising quality.
  • Oversee student preparation, progress, and support in field experiences, including managing processes for students of concern.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex field issues, such as student performance concerns or placement breakdowns.
  • Coordinate the overall FA/FO deployment model and maintain a field experience calendar and staffing matrix.
  • Advise the Director on strategic deployment, resource needs, and data-informed decision-making for the field education model.
  • Lead internal reviews and process improvements of the field education model.
  • Oversee development and updating of field experience materials, such as the Field Guide and evaluation forms.
  • Liaise with school districts, government agencies, and community partners to foster relationships and develop professional learning initiatives.
  • Contribute to B.Ed. program reviews and ongoing monitoring and reporting.
  • Lead an Advisory cohort of candidates and interns, conducting school placement visits, observations, and feedback sessions.
  • Oversee student progress and provide advising regarding progression and performance.
  • When required, participate in appeal processes initiated by teacher candidates or interns.

What We're Looking For

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of four to five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Nice to Have

  • A Master’s degree in education.
  • Prior experience in the field of education, preferably in leadership positions at the school, district, and/or university-level in British Columbia.
  • Experience with and knowledge of current pedagogical research and best practices in teaching.
  • Proven team management skills with ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to lead change by taking appropriate action to ensure acceptance and support.
  • Ability to listen effectively, interact respectfully, and act transparently.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify key information and issues, and act accordingly.
  • Availability to work flexible or extended hours as needed.
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion.
  • Ability to work off-campus within clusters of schools in specified school districts: SD 83- North Okanagan/Shuswap, SD 22: Vernon, SD 23: Central Okanagan, and SD 67- Okanagan/Skaha.

Team & Environment

You will manage a team of Field Advisors and Field Observers and report directly to the Director of Undergraduate Programs and Director of the Okanagan School of Education. You will work closely with the program assistant, communication manager, manager of administration and operations, admissions officers, academic advisors, and Faculty members.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Monthly salary range: $7,283.75 - $10,474.08 CAD.

This role involves off-campus work within clusters of schools in specified school districts: SD 83- North Okanagan/Shuswap, SD 22: Vernon, SD 23: Central Okanagan, and SD 67- Okanagan/Skaha.
