About the Role

Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead and empower a team of talented developers on a new and unannounced gaming project. In this role, you will foster a safe, collaborative, and innovative work environment where engineers can thrive and grow, acting as a trusted mentor and bridge between technical and non-technical teams.

What You'll Do

  • Guide and mentor a team of engineers, listening empathetically and helping them grow through coaching, feedback, and support.
  • Foster a culture of safety, creativity, and collaboration, where individuals can be themselves and do their best work.
  • Build trust within the team through transparency, consistency, and support.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to align technical goals with studio-wide initiatives and creative direction.
  • Help define and evolve engineering production practices that serve both technical quality and team ownership.
  • Champion quality code and good engineering practices by advocating for space and time to do things right.
  • Hire and onboard new team members, focusing on building diverse and complementary skills.
  • Act as a communication bridge between engineering and non-technical stakeholders, promoting understanding and alignment.

What We're Looking For

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience as a software engineer or in support of engineering teams, with at least 3 years in a management role.
  • Strong background in C++, C#, and Python.
  • Deep understanding of agile development practices and continuous delivery of production services.
  • Proven ability to lead with empathy, authenticity, and resilience, especially in dynamic or high-stakes environments.
  • Experience in supporting AAA game development or similar large-scale software projects.
  • Comfortable guiding both technical solutions and team dynamics with clarity and patience.
  • Eligibility to work remotely from AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, MA, MD, NC, NY, OR, TX, UT, WA, WI, or from the Bellevue, WA office.
