Canva is seeking an Engineering Manager (Infra) for our Core Data group to lead a team shaping the future of our persistent storage infrastructure. This ANZ remote role involves evolving our core data platforms towards a storage-as-a-service model, focusing on scalability, reliability, and developer experience at massive scale.
What You'll Do
- Lead and coach a team of software engineers building and evolving Canva's core data and storage platforms.
- Design, implement, and continuously improve database and storage infrastructure with scalability, reliability, security, compliance, and cost efficiency in mind.
- Analyze fleet-wide performance and efficiency across Canva's storage systems, using data-driven insights to uplift reliability and reduce operational overhead.
- Drive the evolution of Canva's persistent storage towards a storage-as-a-service model, shaping architecture, tooling, and developer experience.
- Partner closely with product, platform, and infrastructure teams to translate complex needs into robust, sustainable engineering solutions.
- Balance long-term strategy with pragmatic delivery to ensure high-impact outcomes for Canva at scale.
What We're Looking For
- Extensive experience in software engineering within large-scale, production environments.
- Worked deeply with modern data storage and data platform technologies.
- Experienced with languages such as Golang, Python, Java, or similar.
- Understand security, privacy, and compliance requirements for data storage systems.
- Comfortable operating at the intersection of technical depth and people leadership.
- Enjoy coaching engineers and supporting their growth and career development.
- Collaborate well and communicate clearly with both deeply technical partners and senior non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS.
