Sonoco is hiring an Employee and Labor Relations Specialist (Remote)

About the Role

The specialist will serve as a key resource in managing employee relations, conducting investigations, interpreting policies, and advising managers on appropriate actions to maintain a productive and compliant work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate employee complaints and workplace concerns promptly and objectively
  • Conduct interviews and gather evidence during internal investigations
  • Interpret company policies and employment laws to guide management decisions
  • Support disciplinary actions and performance management processes
  • Maintain accurate records of employee relations cases
  • Collaborate with HR partners to address team-specific issues
  • Assist in drafting responses to employee grievances
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor regulations
  • Provide guidance on union-related matters and collective bargaining agreements
  • Support organizational changes involving workforce impacts
  • Promote consistent application of HR policies across departments
  • Partner with legal counsel when necessary
  • Develop recommendations for resolving complex employee situations
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive personnel information
  • Identify trends in employee relations data to inform preventive strategies
  • Assist in updating employee handbooks and policy documents
  • Deliver training to managers on employee relations best practices
  • Monitor changes in employment law and advise on policy updates
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes as they relate to compliance
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding workplace policies
  • Facilitate communication between employees and management
  • Evaluate risks associated with employee relations issues
  • Participate in cross-functional HR initiatives
  • Ensure documentation meets legal and internal standards
  • Promote a culture of fairness and accountability
