San Bernardino City Unified School District is hiring an Education Assistant III to provide instructional support and language assistance for students identified as English learners. This role utilizes fluency in both English and Vietnamese to help students overcome language barriers and succeed academically.
What You'll Do
- Tutor students identified as English learners to improve their English proficiency and understanding of curriculum subjects.
- Assist students with school achievement problems resulting from language barriers, promoting a positive self-image and cooperative interaction.
- Correct homework assignments and class exercises, maintaining records of grades and student progress.
- Consult with teachers on better meeting student needs and perform tasks related to program planning and implementation.
- Serve as an interpreter and translate notices sent home to parents of English learners.
- Administer oral language proficiency and academic tests in English and Vietnamese.
- Transcribe oral answers into written form using state- and District-approved tests.
- Contact school staff and parents to explain test scores, and collect, correct, score, and tabulate assessment tests.
- Coordinate testing schedules with teachers and students, testing on a one-to-one basis.
- Verify student cumulative records and receive, sort, arrange, alphabetize, and file testing materials.
- Post, maintain, and update testing data, providing assistance to staff compiling reports.
- May travel between work locations using personal transportation.
What We're Looking For
- One year of paid experience in instructional assistance, tutoring, interpreting/translating, or administering language proficiency tests.
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Successful candidates must pass a written examination (weight: 100%).
- Must meet the Assessment Examination requirement via 48+ semester college units, an Associate’s degree or higher, or passing the Assessment Examination.
- Fingerprinting, drug, and tuberculosis testing are required for all new District hires.
- Must upload proof of education and/or training with the application.
- In compliance with California SB 1100, a valid California driver’s license and automobile insurance are required only if driving is an essential job function.
Team & Environment
You will receive supervision from a Manager at or above the Coordinator level and technical instructions from a teacher or other certificated staff member. This role exercises no supervision.
