About the Role

San Bernardino City Unified School District Personnel Commission is hiring an Education Assistant III to provide bilingual academic instruction and assessment support. You'll use your knowledge of English and Cambodian to assist certificated staff and help students overcome language barriers to succeed in school.

What You'll Do

  • Tutor students identified as English learners to improve their English proficiency and understanding of curriculum subjects.
  • Assist assigned students with academic problems resulting from language barriers.
  • Promote student well-being by fostering a positive self-image and cooperative social skills.
  • Correct homework assignments and class exercises.
  • Maintain records of student grades and progress.
  • Consult with teachers to better meet student needs.
  • Perform related tasks for program planning, implementation, and operation.
  • Serve as an interpreter and translate notices sent home to parents.
  • Administer oral language proficiency and academic tests in English and Cambodian.
  • Transcribe oral answers into written form using state-and District-approved tests.
  • Contact school staff and parents to explain test scores.
  • Collect, correct, score, and tabulate assessment tests.
  • Coordinate testing schedules and activities with teachers and students.
  • Test students on a one-to-one basis.
  • Verify student cumulative record information.
  • Receive, sort, arrange, alphabetize, and file materials related to student testing.
  • Post, maintain, and update testing data.
  • Provide assistance to staff compiling reports.
  • May travel between work locations using personal transportation.

What We're Looking For

  • One year of paid experience in any combination of: providing instructional assistance to a credentialed teacher, tutoring students, providing interpreting or translating services, or administering language proficiency tests and assessments.
  • High school graduation or the equivalent.

Team & Environment

You will receive supervision from a manager at or above the level of Coordinator and receive technical instructions from a teacher or other certificated staff member. This role exercises no supervision.

  • Health, Vision, Dental and PERS (retirement). Benefits are available to full-time and part-time employees.
  • Compensation is based on the Regular Classified Salary Range 34.

This is an onsite position.
