Illinois State University is hiring an Editorial Writer and Content Strategist to safeguard editorial standards across the university's communications. As a key member of our editorial and online communications team, you will produce professional writing and editing that conveys the university's excellence and ensures projects are completed on deadline.

What You'll Do

• Maintain editorial standards for Illinois State University's broad range of communications.
• Enhance editorial quality and consistency through professional writing and editing.
• Ensure communication projects are completed on deadline and reflect the university's excellence.
• Uphold editorial consistency for online communications, including social media and the University News system.
• Perform online copy editing duties for flagship social media channels and news publications.

What We're Looking For

• A Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English, or a closely related field.
• Two (2) years of experience writing for a newspaper, magazine, trade publication, news organization, or in a public relations, research, or business communications environment.

Nice to Have

• Working knowledge of The Associated Press Stylebook and similar references.
• A strong understanding of grammar and copyediting and proofing skills.
• Attention to detail and the ability to write clear, cogent copy under deadline pressure.
• Skill in enforcing and explaining style rules for print and online projects.
• Ability to write multi-sourced, magazine-length features.
• Working knowledge of SEO, web analytics, and experience editing e-newsletters.
• General knowledge of print publication processes.
• Working knowledge of photography, videography, and the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.
• Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word.
• Ability to work within a committee structure and partner with multiple clients.
• Availability to occasionally work outside normal business hours for story or event coverage.
